Statue of Hindu Saint Adi Shankaracharya Unveiled…

Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh unveiled the 108 feet high Statue of Oneness of Adi Shankaracharya on Mandhata mountain at Omkareshwar in Khandwa district, M.P.

News Jungal Desk: This impressive sculpture named Ekatmata Ki Pratima or Statue of Oneness serves as monumental homage to the enduring legacy and profound teachings of Adi Shankaracharya.

This project is part of the government’s efforts to develop Omkareshwar as a a prominent religious and tourism destination.

Mandhata Island:

This island nested on Narmada river, is home to two of the 12 Jyotirlingas- Omkareshwara and Amareshwara.

This island having Shaivite, Vaisnavite and Jain temples dating back to 14th and 18th centuries.

The name Omakareshwar derived from the shape of the island, which is sacred syllable ‘OM’ .

About Adishankaracharya:

Adi Shankara (780-820 CE) born at Kaledi near Kochi , Kerala.

He was devotee of Shiva.

He arrived Omkareshwar as a young monk , where he encountered his Guru Govind Bhagwadpad.

He departed Omkareshwar at the age of 12 and embarked on a journey, disseminating the teachings of Advaita Philosophy.

He propounded the doctrine of Advaita and wrote many commentaries on the Vedic Canon ( Upnishads, Brahma Sutras, and Bhagwad Gita) in Sanskrit.

He took samadhi at the age of 33 at Kedar Tirth.

Major Contributions:

Adi Shankaracharya revitalized Hinduism at a time when it faced challenge from Buddhism and Jainism, promoting unity and reestablishing traditions.He was opposed to Buddhist Philosophers.

Puri

Dwaraka

Badrinath

for the propagation of Sanathana Dharma.

Advaita Vedanta:

According to Advaita Vedanta, the essential core of one’s self (Atman) is Brahman.

Brahman is the reality of everything

and Atman is pure non-intentional consciousness.
